Description
This work was carried out as part of the Environmental Impact Assessment programme for the new Mersey Crossing. It involved the obtaining of cores from the Mersey estuary for palaeoenvironmental assessment. Examination of the material revealed little evidence of pollen preservation or macro-fossil survival and no further work was proposed. A sample of the estuary fringe was also subject to a walkover survey to check for features such as wharfs and boats. A number of examples were recorded and will be subject to further archaeological mitigation should the project proceed. (1)
