Description
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken along the re-routed course of a gas pipeline at Basford Sidings, Crewe, form March 20th to May 18th 2006. This consisted of the observation of removal of all topsoil and recording and excavation of any features encountered. No significant archaeological discoveries were made during the watching brief.
Waterlogged timbers and alluvial deposits were encountered. A photographic record of the trench was taken and samples of bith the wooden timber and alluvium were retained for potential future analysis.
