Description
Short note on groundworks associated with redevelopment to the rear of the Cheshire Cat in Nantwich. An earlier evaluation (ECH3861) revealed evidence of several organically rich deposits of possible medieval date however it could not be investigated fully at that stage. The resulting groundworks aimed to more fully investigate these deposits. The results suggest an area of former wetland or a stream or channel. During the medieval period the site was used for rubbish disposal particulary by the nearby saltworks. (1)
