Description

Four trenches were excavated in 1970 in advance of the construction of an extension to the telephone exchange on St John Street. Significant overburden was recorded however sealed beneath this was a Roman culvert and a V-shaped gully, no structural evidence noted, however a sandstone surfaced road superimposed on a ditch on a north-south alignment was recorded in Trench D (1).
