Description

In 1956 Weaver Street was widened considerably between White Friars and Commonhall Street with some encroachment on the garden of The Friars. The street widening also involved the demolition of No 39 and 41 Commonhall Street. Two trenches were cut south of the junction of Weaver Streeet and Commonhall Street. T2 recorded a substantial medieval pit however T1 recorded further evidence of a single post hole overlaid by a foundation trench containing sandstone rubble for a well constructed sandstone and mortar wall and an internal floor surface. Pottery suggested a Flavian/Trajanic date. (1) Depicts trench locations (3).
