Description

Eastgate Row North, 1926: A Roman hypocaust was found on the site of the Mitre Tavern at the east end of Eastgate Row North, now occupied by the National Westminster Bank. Judge W Wynne Ffoulkes remembered that the hypocaust was discovered on the removal of the tavern (1) & (2). From its position it belonged to one of the centurion's houses (3).
