Description

Grey Friars (Lane), 1914: A part of a Roman cement floor was uncovered by construction workers while cutting a trench for a drain on Grey Friar's Ln. in January 1914. The drain cut is said to have extended from Wood's Storehouse to Nun's Rd., by the city walls (1). In addition to the Roman remains, disturbed medieval deposits containing disarticulated human remains were also reported (2). Water Tower Street, 1914: A Saxon coin hoard was found while construction work was being carried out in August 1914 on Water Tower St., c 1m south of north wall of city, opposite the eastern angle of Pemberton's Parlour (4).
