Description

On July 21st, 1899, a workman who was engaged in excavating clay for the manufacture of bricks at Mr. Morton Browne’s works at Saltney, Chester, discovered a human skull. Investigations by Newstead retrieved the phalanges of both hands, with the adjacent remains of Bos longifrons, various species of mollusca. Further unstratified human remains were recovered from the spoil and from a heap near the mill house. Fragments of Romano-British Pottery, were recovered from a band of water worn pebbles higher in the stratigraphic sequence.
