Description
The Monuments Protection Programme was a comprehensive review and evaluation of England's archaeological resource, designed to collect information to enhance the conservation, management, and public appreciation of the archaeological heritage. One of its principal aims was to identify those monuments and sites whose national importance and conservation needs justify some form of statutory protection (generally scheduling).
Scoring Remarks: From aerial photograph. May be a DMV or a Water Meadow.
Field Visit Remarks: Site visited for Monuments Protection Programme in May 1998. Site identified as a steep-sided small valley, with the interior divisions being formed by drainage ditches constructed to pipe the water off the fields above. These divisions look like crofts of an early settlement. At the westren end of the enclosures the Roman road (CHER:1189/1/6) from Nantwich to Middlewich crosses the site to the west of a small pond. This has caused the brook to be dammed at the point where the two features cross each other.
