Description

Sutton New Hall Farm LL26 (Previously LL LS/3) Address: Ledsham Road, Little Sutton Architect: R C Naylor of Hooton Date: c1811 Description On the site of an ancient cemetery discovered in 1811 “at an elevated spot where the foundations of a farm house were being dug”, 400 yards south west of the site of the former Hall, which was demolished about 1750. George Ormerod writing in 1825 states “The Hall of Little Sutton was taken down within the memory of aged persons now living”, thus working back from that (say) 75 years gives a date for demolition of about 1750. The present form is a typical three storey late Georgian house pitched slated roof with rendered chimneys to each gable, walls of local brick. Nine and twelve pane sash windows, some replaced with modern casements. Flat roofed extension to rear, with stone moulded parapet that may be from former Hall or the Cemetery Chapel. Courtyard to front (north) elevation formed by farm buildings, one of which has 1812 date stone to gable. Condition Good. Current use In use as a farm/dwelling. Updated April 2007
