Undercroft and town house, now 2 undercroft shops, a double Row shop and 2 vacant storeys. C15 or later, largely rebuilt as town house and shops 1803 and later. Sandstone and brown brick; grey slate roof not visible from front. EXTERIOR: 4 storeys, including street and Row levels; 2 main bays. 2 modern shopfronts to street; shopfront of earlier C20 character with door near centre to Row. Brick piers with plastered inner faces, with painted octagonal column at centre of each bay of Row; wooden rail on stick balusters; 4-panel doors to upper storeys left of No.5 and right of No.7. 16-pane sash to third storey of No.7; 4-pane sash to third storey of No.5 and one to each bay of fourth storey. Flat gauged brick heads to third storey windows; simple cambered heads to fourth storey. Plain brick gable chimney at each end. Cast-iron rainwater head, pipe and brackets; upper bracket dated 1803. Rear elevation not visible. INTERIOR: late medieval rubble sandstone walling to undercroft of No.5, with inserted brick barrel-vault, probably C18; 2 chamfered oak beams, the first approximately 4 feet behind shopfront. Chimney breast on right wall, behind second beam; 2 replaced beams further back; blocked stair with stone treads and brick risers against west wall formerly led to Row storey. The structure of the undercroft to No.7 is hidden. No visible features of interest at Row level; the upper storeys could not be inspected, but are stated to have been gutted.
