CHESTER CITY (IM) SJ4066SW STANLEY PLACE 595-1/3/366 (South side) 28/07/55 No.7 (Formerly Listed as: STANLEY PLACE Nos 1-9 (consec), No 10 & Nos 11-14 (consec)) GV II Town house, now offices. c1780. Flemish bond brown brick with grey slate roof. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys plus attic in mansard. 3 stone steps, west, to door of 4 fielded panels above 2 flush panels, with plain overlight, in a pedimented doorcase. 2 replaced 2-pane recessed sashes to each storey have painted stone sills and slightly cambered painted gauged-brick heads; two 12-pane dormer sashes in mansard. 2 east chimneys shared with No.5 Stanley Place (qv) and one west chimney. The rear, extended and altered, has a tall 42-pane stair window in the east face of the rear wing and a 12-pane dormer in the mansard. INTERIOR: a part-glazed inner front door has 2 fielded lower panels, sidelights and an overlight, probably late C19; door of 6 fielded panels to front room and 5 fielded panels to rear room; front room has large panels beneath dado rail, panelled embrasure shutters, segmental full-width arch near back of room and cornice. The open-string stair has fretted brackets, tapered newels, plinthed stick balusters and a swept handrail carved at its lower end as a hand, with the wrist emerging from a sleeve, grasping the newel-head. The second storey front room has a door of 5 fielded panels, large panels beneath dado rail and a cornice; the rear room in main block has door of 5 fielded panels, a modest Classical fire surround and a cornice; basket arch on fluted pilasters to the stairwell; the stair continues to the third and fourth storeys which have no readily visible features of special interest.
