CHESTER CITY (IM) SJ4066SE NEWGATE STREET 595-1/4/262 (East side) 10/01/72 No.19 GV II Town house, now office. Probably c1770. Flemish bond brown brick with grey slate roof not visible at front. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys of one bay. Painted stone plinth; 3 stone steps to replaced door of 6 fielded panels in case with architrave and pulvinated frieze to glazed open pediment, north; 2 replaced recessed horned 12-pane sashes. Second storey sillband, broken at centre; 2 replaced recessed horned 12-pane sashes. The third storey has a central replaced recessed horned 9-pane sash with painted stone sill. Windows have rusticated wedge lintels, except for the third storey with false keystones. Painted stone cornice beneath brick parapet with painted stone coping; parapet to the south end conceals the roof. 2 lateral chimneys. The rear has a flush 4-pane sash to each storey and a rear wing with a door and a small-pane window in its south side, a dual 16-pane second storey sash and two C20 third storey windows. INTERIOR: the north front room has a 2-panel door and embrasure benches. Rear room has door of 2 fielded panels. The upper storeys could not be inspected. Listing NGR: SJ4071366204
