Description

CHESTER CITY (IM) SJ4065NE LOWER BRIDGE STREET 595-1/6/257 (East side) 03/09/71 No.49 GV II Small town house, now part of a hotel and restaurant, with No.51 (qv). Probably mid C18 with some alterations. Brown brick in English bond with hipped grey slate roof, ridge at right-angle to front. Basement and 4 storeys of one bay. 9 steps down to half-glazed 2-panel double doors to basement, north of centre. 4 steps up and apron landing to door of 6 fielded panels in probably replaced pedimented case with fluted pilasters. Flush quoins. Replaced 16-pane recessed horned sashes, one to each of first second and third storeys and one of 12 panes to the fourth storey; second, third and fourth storey sillbands; flat gauged brick heads. The top quoins of the north-west corner are corbelled out to the side. Lead rainwater pipe, lower part replaced in cast-iron, has decorative rainwater head. Lateral chimney. Rear altered.
