CHESTER CITY (IM) SJ4066SE EASTGATE STREET AND ROW 595-1/4/176 (South side) 10/01/72 No.18 Street and Nos.18 & 20 Row (Formerly Listed as: EASTGATE STREET No 18 Street & Nos 18 & 20 Row) GV II Undercroft and town house, rebuilt probably early C19 as undercroft shop, Row shop and accommodation. Brown brick in Flemish bond to front with hipped grey slate roof, ridge at right-angle to front. 4 storeys including undercroft and Row. Modern shopfront to street frontage; end-piers probably of stone, painted, rise through undercroft and Row storeys; 9 altered sandstone steps to Row walk. Plain cast-iron Row-front railing; central cast-iron Doric column; boarded stallboard 1.95m from front to back, with showcase, east; concrete-paved Row walk; shopfront probably late C20 in Edwardian manner; plaster ceiling to stallboard and Row walk; plain Row-top bressumer with cornice. The third and fourth storeys have 2 recessed sashes each, of 12 panes to the third storey and 9 to the fourth storey, with painted stone sills and wedge lintels; lead rainwater head shared with No.18 Row; cornice and parapet course of painted stone. INTERIOR: surfaces are covered in the undercroft and Row storeys and no features of special interest are visible in the third and fourth storeys. Listing NGR: SJ4058766278
