SJ4066SW CITY WALLS 595-1/3/132 Part of City Wall from the Watergate 28/07/55 to Bonewaldesthorne Tower (Formerly Listed as: City Walls & Towers incl. foundations of SE angle Roman Fortress wall & tower)

Part of medieval City Wall. Late C11 to early C12, converted to a promenade 1702-8, repaired during various periods and altered towards north end to bridge the Holyhead Railway mid C19. Coursed red sandstone rubble. The outer face is approx 18 courses high, with buttresses of indeterminate date. Ground level within the wall is approximately flush with the pavement, formerly the wall walk, but shows some exposed stonework towards the Watergate (qv), south, and Bonewaldesthorne Tower (qv), north.
