A substantial town house and rear dwelling, now offices and rear house. Mid C18. Flemish bond brown brick, sandstone and hipped grey slate roof, ridge at right-angle to front. EXTERIOR: basement and 4 storeys of 3 bays. Wrought-iron railing to stone-paved forecourt with 10 stone steps down to basement which has boarded door under steps and landing to main entrance. Coursed sandstone front to basement has a replaced window. Front door of 6 fielded panels, north, has a decorated radial-bar fanlight and a panelled case with fluted pilasters, Doric frieze and segmental pediment. Flush sashes with painted stone sills and rusticated wedge lintels with keystones: 2 of 12 panes to first storey; 3 of 12 panes to second storey; 3, shorter, of 12 square panes to the third storey, and 2, replaced, of 4 panes to fourth storey. Fluted rainwater head and, in part, pipe near each corner. Stone cornice and brick parapet with simple coping. The rear of the main block has flush sashes; tripartite of 4;12;4 panes to first storey, 12-pane to second storey and of 12 square panes to third storey; replaced with 4 panes to fourth storey; all have painted stone sills and keystones to segmental brick arches. A small rear wing, north, has a 4-pane flush sash and a replaced stair window with arched head; stone-capped parapets to gables. Attached to rear wing of main block a long 3-storey wing contains a separate house: the first storey has a nearly flush 12-pane sash to each side of a 6-panel door with fanlight in a pedimental case; the second and third storeys have a long round-arched stair window with a nearly flush 12-pane sash and a 4-pane attic-storey sash to each side; the rear gable-end has a 4-pane window to the first storey; a flush sash of 12 square panes and a C20 bridge to a modern door to the second storey; a cavetto stone coping to gable-parapet. The attached yard wall has curved wrought-iron spikes, east, where it is a retaining wall; a flight of 24 stone steps down to flagged passage to the main block and yard to the rear house. INTERIOR: not inspected.
