This list entry was subject to a Minor Amendment on 15/09/2017 SJ4166 1932-1/6/111 CHESTER CITY (EM) FOREGATE STREET (South side) No. 158 (Formerly listed as Nos.156 and 158) 28/07/55 GV II Town house. Mid C18. The left bay and east side to Dee Lane rebuilt or refurbished 1907 by WT Lockwood. Brick, stone dressings, grey slate roof. EXTERIOR: the left bay has painted plinth, rusticated quoins, two flush 12-pane sashes to ground floor; the right bay has front door of two flush panels and two simple panels with overlight of a central pane and six margin panes in panelled Doric case with unfluted half-pillars and curved pediment with unmoulded frieze, dentils and egg-and-dart cornice; the sash left of door has eared architrave; a 12-pane flush sash and a two-panel secondary door with moulded hood; rusticated quoins at right corner. Each bay has two flush 12-pane sashes to first floor. All sashes have painted stone sills and rusticated wedge lintels with projecting stone keys; the right bay has moulded stone coping. The left bay has moulded terracotta coping to half-round gable with cartouche dated 1907 and three ball finials. The east face to Dee Lane has six flush 12-pane sashes to ground floor and four to first floor. A ridge chimney and a lateral chimney on rear bay to Dee Lane. No visible features of special interest to rear. INTERIOR: not inspected Building vacant at time of survey (April 1992).
