CHESTER CITY (EM) SJ4065 EATON ROAD 1932-1/8/77 (East side) Nos.15 AND 17 GV II Pair of suburban houses. c1820. English garden wall bond brown brick with hipped roof of graded grey slate. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, 4 windows per house, handed. No.15 has added 1-storey canted bay window, left, of 4 lights, 2-pane below transom and 1 pane above; a pair of 2-pane French windows; Tudor-arched door of 2 flush panels, 2 simple panels and 2 arched panes, under arched hoodmould; pair of 2-pane French windows. No.17 has pair of metal French windows of 8:8 panes; Tudor-arched door and surround as No.15 but in trellis porch with bench to each side and arched roof; casement of three 2-pane lights and a pair of 8;8 pane French windows. The first floor has four 6-pane sashes to No.15, a 3-light casement left of entrance, a blank opening above entrance and two 3-light casements right of entrance to No.17, all lights of 2 panes. 2 ridge chimneys and a lateral chimney. All window openings have stone labels. It is probable that the French windows are inserted in place of casements. The roofs have wide boxed eaves. INTERIORS: only No.15 inspected. Features include stair with octagonal newel and turned balusters; 2 probably original fireplaces; ceiling cornices. This item forms a group with Nos 19 and 21, 23 and 25, of similar form and design (qv). Listing NGR: SJ4078965324
