Hotel, now public house. 1865. Brick and render. The almost flat roof is not visible. Italianate style. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; 10 windows to Station Road, north, 3 to quadrant corner and 4 to City Road. Rusticated face to basement; segmental-headed openings with vermiculated keystones; 10-pane iron hoppers. Stone segmental-arched bridge across area to bar and lounge entrance. The ground floor has round-arched openings separated by Doric pilasters; 2-pane sashes. 2-panel double doors to bar, 4-panel folding door to lounge. No area to City Road. The former hotel, now pub, entrance has double 2-panel doors in Ionic case with green man and beasts in spandrels; ornate upper panels to pilasters, keystone and frieze. A continuous triglyph frieze and modillion cornice at first floor. The first floor has 2-pane sashes in shouldered architraves. Frieze-and-cornice parapet. The south face to lawn is brick. A verandah of 8 cast-iron basket arches with openwork spandrels. INTERIOR: no features of interest visible. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: area before the basement has brick retaining wall with spearhead railings on stone cap. The Albion Hotel was built as a humbler subsidiary to the Queen Hotel (qv), in the same ownership.
