5/59 Coddington Mill and Mill Dam
II
Cornmill, 1775 (in course of conversion to house, but without destruction of machinery, in 1983). Local red brick in English garden wall bond; grey slate roof. 3 storeys Under 2 parallel ridges. Windows and concrete lintels mid C20. External hoist; loading doors on upper 2 storeys and massive softwood buffer on lower storey. Dovecote on ridge. Square kiln chimney. Stone (on north wall), repainted George and Mary Lowe 1775. Concrete and timber sluices. Mill-race modified to feed turbine. Interior: Late C19 train of cast-iron machinery; underdrift stones. Ancillary machinery (driving belts removed) includes grain-sifter 1883. Turbine removed for restoration (1983).
