SJ 87 SE NETHER ALDERLEY C.P. CHELFORD ROAD (North Side) 8/113 Fernhill Farmhouse GV II Farmhouse: earlier C17 origins probably for Sir Thomas Stanley, extensive rebuilding late C18/early C19 and 3 small C20 additions. English garden wall bond orange brick, partly Kerridge stone-slate, partly Welsh slate roof and 3 brick chimneys'. L-shaped plan. 2-storey and attic, 3-bay north front. Windows are 3-light casements under segmental rough brick heads and door behind C20 extension. Other fronts have similar heads, some to mullioned and transomed wooden windows with iron casements. Interior: Cambered, chamfered fire beam with stone heck. Ceiling beams are sawn and raised. 2½-storey dog-leg C17 staircase with reeded square newels, shaped flat balusters and moulded handrail. Some 3-board doors with iron strap hinges. Heavy purlins and ridge visible. Upstairs are visible remains of brick hood over fire, in front of which is a massive stone flag resting on the ceiling beams to act as hearthstone. Listing NGR: SJ8516574486
