4/155a The Stanley Obelisk
GV II
Obelisk: dated 1750 for Sir Edward Stanley. Ashlar buff sandstone. Square base on moulded plinth has inscription "MDCCL ERECTED BY SIR EDWARD STANLEY BART" on south-west face. Projecting moulded shelf supports and very tall tapering octagonal pillar with a pointed top on which stands a ball supporting the Stanley's spread eagle.
