Description

This list entry was subject to a Minor Amendment on 29/07/2014 SJ 88 SE 2/309 WILMSLOW FORMER UD Handforth WILMSLOW ROAD (East Side) Numbers 180, 182, 184 and 186. The White House GV II Formerly Methodist chapel, 2 houses and Sunday School, now 2 houses and storage: c.1840 but partly converted to Sunday School 1873. Washed and rendered brick, green painted Welsh slate roof and 2 brick chimneys. H-shaped plan. Northerly cross-wing is chapel with 2-storey, symmetrical 3-bay front. End bays have lancets with heavy label moulds. Similar mould over central board door with 4-light mullioned and transomed window with crude intersecting tracery, small light above in the gable. Similar lancets down north side. Central portion is of 2 similar 3 bay houses with 16-pane sashes and half glazed doors approached by 3 stone steps with iron balusters. Southerly cross-wing is of 2½ storeys and 2 bays with 16-pane windows and blocked semi-circular headed light in the gable. Listing NGR: SJ8566584169
