SJ 88 SE WILMSLOW FORMER U.D. ALDERLEY ROAD (East Side) 1/236 Fulshaw Hall 30/3/1951 GV II Formerly manor house, now offices, 1684 for Samuel Finney, additions dated 1735 for Samuel Finney II, major additions, refacing in brick, and alterations dated 1886 for R Lingard Monk. Flemish bond plum brick with painted sandstone dressings. Kerridge stone-slate roof and brick chimneys. Extensions in Accrington brick with stone dressings. 2½-storey symmetrical 7-bay front to original house. Stone plinth, rusticated quoins, projecting stone bands at 1st and 2nd floor. End pairs of bays project under stone-coped and ball-finialled gables. Cyma-moulded stone mullioned and transomed windows and a similar 2-light mullioned window in gable. Cyma-moulded and rebated doorcase has studded board door with iron fishtail hinges and added segmental hood over a gilded griffon. Similar windows in flanking bays and coped blocking course on eaves. To right 3-bay additions in similar but more florid style. Interior: Former hall has stone fireplace with a heavy wooden overmantel framed by columns and scrolled pediment and containing 2 armorial plaques and date of 1893. Oak-panelled dado throughout, door reveals have pairs of half fluted pilasters and there are 6 and 9-panelled mahogany doors. Geometric panelled ceilings and some delicate friezes. Oak well staircase has monogram LM and ball finial on newel. Date stone reading SF 1735 in cellar. This was the home of Samuel Finney III who was miniaturist to Queen Charlotte.
