Description

SJ 98 SW POYNTON-WITH-WORTH C.P. MIDDLEWOOD ROAD (North Side) 3/117 Nos 1 and 2 Worth Hall II Formerly Worth Hall farmhouse now 3 flats: C17 with early C19 alterations to front, additions and interior modifications later C20. Coursed, squared, brown sandstone rubble with sandstone dressings. Kerridge stone-slate roof, stone ridge and 4 brick chimneys. Originally rectangular in plan with 2 short ranges at right angles, (each with a side gable) with parallel ridges, to rear. 2-storey, 3-bay west front. 16-pane horned sashes inserted into rebated C17 surrounds on ground floor, with a continuous projecting band forming hood moulds above them; and under plain lintels above. Left gable has a partly blocked 3-light, tall, rebated, chamfered stone mullion below and a blocked 2-light, tall, rebated, cyma-moulded stone mullion above. The east front shows a 4-light, double-rebated chamfered stone mullion below (one mullion only survives) and a 4-light chamfered stone mullion above under a rubble hood mould. The south front has 2 large bevelled reveals and a 2-light C18 square-section stone mullion in side gable. Massive roof timbers visible in all gables. Interior: Much altered but some chamfered beams. An extraordinary mixture of mullioned window types suggests a complicated C17 building history. Listing NGR: SJ9413184066
