Description

MACCLESFIELD SJ97NW DORCHESTER WAY, Tytherington 886-1/2/215 (South side) 17/03/77 Tytherington Old Hall (Formerly Listed as: MANCHESTER ROAD, Tytherington Tytherington Old Hall) II House, probably originally a farmhouse and now disused. Late C16, with extensive C20 alterations and renewals. Timber-framed on stone plinth with stone-flagged roof. PLAN: 2-storeyed, L-plan. Built in 2 phases, the earliest building probably also L-plan, extended to the west. Main front now faces north, with gabled cross wing to left, long range to right. Roughly coursed and squared rubble to ground floor, timber-framed above, the close studding with middle rail enriched with strong raking braces forming a herringbone pattern of framing. Moulded stone cornice in gable carries jetty. Inserted or renewed windows in upper floor, some original small mullioned windows below, but the principal openings all renewed. Long range to right has been extended by a single bay with simpler close studding with arched bracing. Timber-framing follows similar pattern on south elevation, the openings largely renewed, but doorway in angle of main range and gabled cross wing has cambered head and may be original. Single stack on rear gable wall. INTERIOR has been almost entirely renewed, with new timber and concrete blockwork. Listing NGR: SJ9126675999
