Description

This List entry was subject to a Minor Amendment on 06/03/2019 SJ 9173 NE; 886-1/10/58 MACCLESFIELD, CHESTERGATE (south side), Charles Roe House (Formerly Listed as: CHESTERGATE (South side) Nos.60B, 62 AND 62A) 14/04/49 GV II* House, offices when surveyed. C1700, with C19 alterations and C20 restorations. Brick with painted stone quoins and slate roof. Three storeys, 5-window-range double-pile plan with central entrance hall, the stair behind left-hand front room. Six-panelled paired doors with lozenge overlight in stone architrave with scrolled broken pediment. Reinstated sash windows (replacing inserted shop front) each side of doorway. Upper windows also sashes renewed in original openings with moulded stone architraves. Enriched eaves cornice carried on brackets to centre and at angles. End wall stacks. INTERIOR retains restored original staircase with twisted balusters, swept rail and dado panelling. Wall panelling and fireplaces survive in principal rooms. Listing NGR: SJ9154073748 .
