Description
WILDBOARCLOUGH C.P. SJ 96 NE 3/4 Midgeley Gate Farmhouse II* House, early C17 with south wing of similar date and mid C19 north wing. Red gritstone squared rubble with stone chimneys at junctions or south, central and north wings and on north gable. Irregular plan. The south wing is of 2 storeys and 1 bay with recessed bevelled mullioned windows, 5-light in lower storey and 4-light converted to 2-light in upper storey (east) and 5 light with ovolo-moulded label (west). The central cross wing is of 3 storeys plus cellar with 1 window to each main storey and 2 small replaced cellar windows; a 5-light recessed mullioned window to lower and middle storey and 3-light to upper (east), 4-light to lower storey with cove-moulded label and altered window to middle storey with label cut back; late C20 casement to upper storey (west). North wing has 4-pane 2-light wood casements. The interior has ovolo beams, chamfered beams and unwrought beams, all of oak. The walls between south, central and north wings are very thick. Traces of inglenook against north wall of south wing. Jacobean stair partly rebuilt C19.
