SJ 97 SE MACCLESFIELD FOREST C.P. BUXTON ROAD (North Side) 5/96 Milestone 140m north of milespost at SJ 9991 7211. II Milestone: c1750. Triangular sectioned ashlar sandstone block with a shaped top. North-west face reads To Macclesfield 6 miles and south face reads To London 164 miles. This stone is alongside a surviving stretch of the original turnpike isolated in a loop of the new turnpike of 1821. This stone is unerased probably because it did not advertise the shorter distance of the old road to travellers on the new. Listing NGR: SJ9991072110
