Thorneycroft Farmhouse
II
Farmhouse: dated 1752 with extensive modernisations c.1980. Coursed, squared, buff, sandstone rubble. Kerridge stone-slate roof, stone ridge and 2 stone chimneys. Double pile house with 2 parallel ridges. 2-storey, 3-bay front. Slight plinth and massive quoins. End bays have 3-light C20 casements with glazing bars in the surrounds of 3-light square-sectioned stone mullions. Near central semi-circular headed doorcase with prominent keystone now has wrought iron gate. This is approached by a flight of steps. Above is date tablet reading GB (for Brocklehurst) 1752 and a single light window. Interior: Plan intact but no surviving original features.
