Description
SJ 65 NE ASTON JUXTA MONDRUM C.P.
6/9 Brayne Hall
12/1/1967
II
Farmhouse of C17 appearance but with C15 core and later alterations. Brown brick with tile roof. 2 storeys and attic, 3 bays, gabled. Facade has coursed stucco up to first floor band. Flush casements. Fully glazed modern entrance door. C20 barge boards added to gables. Interior: Two heavily moulded C15 ceiling beams, in north west room, together with C17 chamfered beams and exposed ceiling joist. In a south west room there is a deep bevelled beam carved with a rose and thistle motif throughout its length, also exposed ceiling joists. Plain deep bevelled beam in south east room carried by timber post. Bevelled beam in hall and altered staircase in the Jacobean style. Old boarded doors. A principal rafter of a roof truss is carved with a rose and thistle, like the beam in the south west ground floor room. There are some indications that the moulded and carved timbers in this building may not be in their original positions.
