DODDINGTON C.P. DODDINGTON PARK SJ 74 NW 5/18 Stable Block c.20 yards to North west of Doddington Hall.

Stable block. 1777-90. By Samuel Wyatt. Red Flemish bond brick with ashlar dressings and slate roof with lead flashings and wooden cupola. Single and two storeys. East facade: 9 bays. Central projecting bay of 2 storeys with pedimental gable over. Ashlar plinth common to whole building. Central driftway now blocked and containing central wicket door. To either side are blank rectangular panels with stone sills and flat arched heads. Ashlar band at level of springing of the arch. Central Diocletian window over driftway and divided from it by wooden lintel. Circular ashlar roundels to the spandrels. Circular C19 clock face to pedimental gable inscribed Joyce of Whitchurch above which is the lower section of a wooden bellcote. To either side are single storey ranges of three bays with sash windows of 3 x 4 panes with stone sills and flat arched lintels. Moulded cornice to top of wall. To either end are two bay single storey ranges which project slightly with ground floor windows of 3 x 4 sash panes and Diocletian windows to the first floors with hipped roofs over. Rear: similar to eastern front save that the central driftway is not blocked but the extreme right hand ground floor window is. To either side within the driftway are 4 bays with round-headed archways to right and left containing sunken doorways to the loose boxes and hay lofts. Two central doors to each side with circular ashlar-framed pitch holes above. Two ranges of loose boxes remaining inside. The plan and elevations of the stables are similar to those at Tatton Park, Tatton C.P., Macclesfield RDC (q.v.).
