SJ 68 NW GRAPPENHALL C.P. BRIDGEWATER CANAL 1/3 Lumb Brook Bridge (an aqueduct , that part in Grappenhall C.P.) II Aqueduct carrying the Bridgewater Canal over Lumb Brook Road and Lumb Brook, 1770 (date on springer), by James Brindley. Squared snecked blocks of red and yellow sandstone with red brick lining to the deep segmental archway. Slightly concave broadly canted battered abutments. Ramped path from road to towpath has sandstone retaining walls and simple post-and-rail fence. A brick parapet, curved in plan, with 6 rectangular recessed panels to outer side (with C20 concrete coping) protects the towpath. A semi-circular arched sandstone culvert carries Lumb Brook diagonally beneath the road through the aqueduct. The northern part of the aqueduct is in Lumb Brook Road, Stockton Heath Parish and the south-western part is in Lumb Brook Road Appleton C.P. (q.q.v.). Listing NGR: SJ6221286075
