Description
CONSERVATION AREA 58
WRENBURY
DESIGNATED SEPTEMBER 27th 1973
Wrenbury is a small village in an attractive landscape setting. The conservation area extends from the mill and canal bridge on the west, to the village centre on the east.
The area around the mill is made particularly interesting by the activity connected with the canal and the old lifting bridge over which the road passes. The village proper is centred on a triangular green dominated by the handsome sandstone tower of St Margaret 's Church. It has retained several of its original farms and outbuildings, and a number of attractive timber framed and brick cottages set off by a scattering of trees.
Much of the recent development in the village particularly to the south west has done little to improve its character. The green has been spoiled by vehicles and is in need of improvement. The village as a whole however, has retained the feeling of a pleasant rural community, and could easily regain much of its character through small schemes of planting and enhancement.
