Abstract/Summary
Archaeological Desk-Based Assessment produced in 2025 in support of a proposed residential development on c.10.6 ha of land at Old Mill Lane, Sandbach, Cheshire. The site is located at the southern margin of Sandbach, and comprises two land parcels, Area A and Area B.
• Area A (measuring 9.25 ha in area) is bound by dense vegetation, the A534 and Old Mill Road to the west, Houndings Lane Farm and Houndings Lane to the south and south-east, residential properties to the east and dense vegetation, Brookhouse Road car park, Brookhouse Road and the A633 to the north.
• Area B (measuring 1.35 ha in area) is bound by dense vegetation and the A534 to the east, agricultural land to the south, a disused mill pond and race (a water channel which leads to a mill pond and waterwheel) to the west and a brook to the north.
A site visit/walk-over survey and a visit to the Cheshire Archives & Local Studies was carried out on the 13th February 2024.
