Abstract/Summary

A level 3 building survey produced in 2024 for Crewe Hall Boathouse, a Grade II listed building situated within the grounds of Crewe Hall, Cheshire. It is located c.132m north of Crewe Hall and historically formed part of a terraced garden designed by W.A. Nesfield in 1856. The building itself was constructed between that date and 1863. It is built of brick with stone dressings and surmounted by a large statue of Neptune, orientated to face the south, thus overlooking the gardens and the hall beyond. It was accessed by flanking staircases leading to external landing stages around the east and west sides of the structure, although internal access was only possible from the west. Internally, the boathouse comprises a single large room that projects into the former lake with stone landing stages. Small rooms to either side served as storage and secondary access to the external stages.
