Abstract/Summary
Report of a UAV photogrammetric and ground penetrating radar survey undertaken in 2022 in the grounds of Little Moreton Hall, Congleton, on behalf of the National Trust. The aims of the work were to characterise the two potential ‘prospect mounds’ within the grounds of the Hall, using UAV-based photogrammetric 3D reconstruction and to examine the subsurface structure of the inner-prospect mound (that located within the interior of the moated enclosure) and its immediate context using ground penetrating radar (GPR). The research was commissioned to find out whether it was simply the result of dredged material from the moat being dumped on the adjacent lawn, or a deliberately constructed prospect mound, from which to view the knot garden.
