Abstract/Summary
Report of a programme of archaeological evaluation was undertaken in 2023 on the site of a residential development at Oak Villa, Widnes, Cheshire. This work followed on from a geophysical survey (ECH7313/SCH9625). This survey recorded several anomalies, one of which coincided with the line of a former trackway depicted on historical maps running east-west through the site. A total of ten trenches were excavated across the site. Four trenches were found to contain archaeological remains comprising a trackway, ditches, a pit, and a posthole likely related to postmedieval/modern agricultural use or to the 19th century trackway.
