Abstract/Summary
Report detailing results of an archaeological watching brief was undertaken at Dingle Farm, Sandbach, in 2022, during the initial ground clearance and the excavation of foundation trenches and groundworks associated with the construction of a garage in the vicinity of the Farmhouse, the conversion of the barn with an extension, the conversion of an existing cowshed into a garage and garden room, the demolition of the existing garage built on the site of earlier barns, and construction of a 5-bedroom house in its place with a separate garage. Across the site a selection of brick structures were investigated during the watching brief. Supported by several finds these indicate that residential and farming activity occurred within the vicinity of Dingle Farmhouse between the mid-19th century and early-20th century. As nothing earlier was seen in these works, despite the age of the farmhouse, the suggestion is that this area of the village began expanding around this time.
