Abstract/Summary
A Heritage Impact Assessment (HIA) was produced in 2022 for a proposed Battery Storage Facility located to the east of the settlement of Capenhurst, Cheshire. The site is a roughly triangular in shape and currently comprises a field in agricultural use, located to the south of Capenhurst Lane and to the east of the railway line between Birkenhead and Chester.
This study concluded that there has been occupation in the area around Capenhurst from at least the early medieval period onwards with Capenhurst medieval moated site situated immediately adjacent to the south-eastern boundary of the site. The site has likely been in agricultural use from at least as early as the post-medieval period, with the only heritage assets recorded within it being a pair of extant post medieval ponds and elements of an earthwork for a former post-medieval footbridge over the railway line immediately adjacent to the site.
