Abstract/Summary

The Proposed Development site is an area of agricultural land, enclosed in the late 18th or early 19th century, potentially at least in part from the Saltney marsh. The land appears to have been marginal prior to enclosure, with the adjacent scheduled Bretton Hall moated site and Bretton Hall Farm sited on a slightly higher ridge, on which there is also recorded ridge and furrow. No ridge and furrow is recorded within the proposed development site. There is one asset of low or negligible heritage value recorded within the development site; a circular earthwork feature that may be natural or could be associated with post medieval agricultural activity. The Proposed Development site has a low potential for as yet unrecorded archaeology to be present dating from the prehistoric, Roman, early medieval and medieval periods. There is a low to moderate potential for palaeo-environmental evidence to be present within the site. There is a high potential for post medieval archaeology, although that would most likely be of local significance only and therefore low heritage value.
