Abstract/Summary

A study examining more than 800 medieval skeletons excavated at Poulton which have shed new light on a Cheshire community who farmed the land in the service of a Cistercian Abbey between the 13th and 16th centuries. The skeletons evidence a physically demanding lifestyle, disease, high infant mortality when compared to modern populations, and, on occasion, violent death.
