Abstract/Summary
A desk-based assessment was produced in 2018 in connection with the replacement of two overhead powerlines with underground cables at Reaseheath, north-west of Nantwich in Cheshire. The assessment determined that the western end of the scheme lies within the registered area of the Battle of Nantwich and has the potential to disturb buried artefactual evidence, and possibly physical remains, associated with the Civil War battle. Chance finds associated with the battle have also been recovered from the wider area, outside the registered boundary. The new underground cables will also cross four historic hedgerows, although it is uncertain whether any removal would be required which might require an application for consent.
