Abstract/Summary
Report detailing analysis of two sherds of Roman pottery from Beeston Castle, also two sherds of Roman pottery from Chester which superficially resembled the Beeston Castle sherds. All four sherds were studied macroscopically. Those from Beeston Castle included a plain bodysherd in a brown, sandy fabric of unknown origin, also a second plain bodysherd in a hard, smooth fabric possibly containing mudstone indicating a local origin. The sherds from Chester were not the same as the Beeston examples. They included a plain bodysherd in a hard, sand fabric of unknown origin, also a bead-rimmed cooking pot fragment in a hard, burnished fabric, potentially a copy of a black-burnished ware and possibly originating in Worcestershire.
