Abstract/Summary

Heritage statement produced for 92 Worth Clough, Middleton Road, Poynton, in 2018, prior to its proposed renovation and extension. It is a nineteenth century Grade II listed cottage, which forms part of a line of 14 Grade II listed terraced cottages, collectively forming Worth Clough. The focus of the heritage statement was to understand the significance of the cottage in greater detail, to assess how much of the historic fabric of the structure remains in situ, and to assess the impact of the proposals on the cottage and its wider setting. The study concludes that the main heritage significance of the cottages resides in the front façade of the row which has been little altered. The back of the row of cottages, however, has been subject to more alteration and extension so has lost original character. Internally, in the case of number 92, the traditional look of the cottage has been diminished by alteration during the twentieth century, resulting in a lesser appreciation or understanding of the earlier 19th century worker's cottage.
