Abstract/Summary

A metal detecting survey was undertaken in 2018 on land totalling 12.5ha at the proposed site of the Huntington II Solar Array, Huntington, Chester (NGR 341677 363708). In total, 162 metal finds were recorded across the site, these were mainly Victorian to modern in date, and the majority were either unidentifiable or from farm machinery. However, three small finds were recorded - an Elizabeth I penny and two Henry VIII groats. The two groats were found in close association, so are deemed as treasure under the Treasure Act. As a result of these finds, a 10m square area was subject to a strip and record on 18th July, in order to establish if they could be related to further finds or features of archaeological interest, however, no further finds or features were encountered.
