Abstract/Summary

An archaeological watching brief was undertaken in April 2018 during groundworks for residential housing on land north of School House, Daresbury. The site of the development is shown as an open field on historical mapping, however the site lies within the Daresbury Conservation Area and is in the vicinity of two Roman roads and therefore of potential significance. A total area of 1520.58m2 was reduced down to the natural sandstone substrate during the archaeological monitoring. No archaeological remains were encountered during the excavations. A small assemblage of pottery, glass, and clay tobacco pipe was recovered, all deriving from topsoil and all dating to the 19th-20th centuries.
