Abstract/Summary
Archaeological evaluation undertaken for a 23 hectare site, the proposed site of a new M56 motorway services. The evaluation comprised a desk-based appraisal of heritage sites, supplemented with field evaluation and the recording of soil profiles in four mechanically excavated test pits and in ten locations on existing field boundary ditches. The project brief required assessment of the site with special reference to the environmental history of the site. The results of the evaluation demonstrated that there were no archaeological remains or deposits within the development area.
