Source/Archive record SCH8431 - The Nook, Little Budworth, Cheshire West and Chester: Heritage Assessment

Documentary research produced in 2013 for The Nook, a small cottage of circa 1890 located off Vicarage Lane, Little Budworth, prior to its potential demolition and re-development. The Nook is designated as a building of local importance within the Little Budworth Conservation Area. It is a functional, two-storied brick-built single-cell cottage containing ground floor living room and bedroom above, with a single-storey outshut containing a kitchen and bathroom. The Nook probably dates fromaround 1890, although map evidence shows earlier buildings appear to have existed on the site; it is accompanied by two single-storey outbuildings of similar date, one a former pig sty and privy. It has however experienced some alteration, with a rear wing shown by early twentieth century mapping removed. Over all, the intrinsic architectural interest of the building is low making it just of local significance. Moreover, its marginal location lessens its contribution to the character and significance of the Conservation Area.
